""I would say the last few years have been tremendously successful," said Alex Morrison, executive director of the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority. "The conversation about Macon has changed considerably. I think a big part of that is the growth of the urban core.""

In recent years, Macon has placed an emphasis on reinvesting in its downtown core, spearheaded by local organizations like NewTown Macon. ""Currently, throughout downtown there are 346 lofts (not including traditional apartments) and 8,990 residents living in houses, apartments and townhomes, according to NewTown."" Their mantra "Live Downtown Macon" is becoming more prevalent than ever before.
